Get gas, stay a while: I take my mobile journalism skills to a York County convenience store

This was my office on  a recent Thursday. That’s my iPad with 3G, a bluetooth keyboard and, most importantly, a cup of Rutter’s’ AMAZING hazelnut creme coffee. Sure beats the beverage options back at the office!

For my ideaLab mobile reporting project, there’s always the usual hangouts.

You’ve got the library. Coffee shops. Central Market.

But that’s where normal people go. And I’m anything but.

So, I set out in search of characters.

I have yet to determine whether the live chats I’m doing every Friday with different businesses are worth my time or not.

But I hate breaking a streak.

COLUMN: Confessions of a former Hershey Park mascot

People sometimes tell me I’m a character. But they don’t know the half of it.

It was my first job title.

For my first job, I spent two summers dressed as a candy bar at Hersheypark.

For two years, I signed autographs and frolicked around Hersheypark as a life-size mock-up of the Hershey Kiss, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, and, yes, sometimes the York Peppermint Pattie.

It’s sort of creepy, if you think about it.
