The Lauren Boyer Rap: ‘B is for Boyer, B is for Boss’

I found this gem on the Internet today.

We all Google ourselves … some of us more than others.

I have no idea who this person is, but I feel like we’d be fast friends. Many people share my same name, as my pal Donald has told me.

I’ll put this out there: I’m jealous of her swagger.

Here are my three favorite lines from the lyrical masterpiece I can only assume rocked the pants off Trevecca Nazarene University:

“Man Lauren Boyer, yous a crazy chick.”

“B is for Boyer, B is for Boss.”

“I never said I was a role model.”

Throwback Thursday: Before the Harley coverage, it was ‘biker babe’ for Halloween

My little sister Casey and I during Halloween sometime in the 90s.

My little sister Casey and I during Halloween sometime in the 90s.

Apparently, my mom thought it would be a good idea one year to dress my sister and I up as “biker babes.”

And this what she thought “biker babes” looked like. Continue reading

Business Reporter Sean Adkins ponders how the world has changed.

Business Reporter Sean Adkins ponders how the world has changed.

Today, someone was making a video for our Teen Takeover staff. Folks around here were asked to share their tips for teen journos.

I was asked to explain what social media was like when I was a kid. Basically it barely existed, I said. (Aside from this gem.)

I shared the question with fellow business reporter Sean Adkins. He’s 38.

Crap was really in the stone age back then. Continue reading

Of Farquhars and fasnachts: A man-on-the-street spelling bee video in York County

In fourth grade, I won a spelling bee by correctly spelling the word “embarrassment.”

On Tuesday, I brought new meaning to that same word as I trolled the aisles of Central Market York looking for people to accost for this video.

You see, the Scripps National Spelling Bee was last week.

After great feedback on this video, which examines the pronunciation of “Utz,” a coworker suggested I take to the streets holding a pop-up spelling bee of sorts. Continue reading

My weekend is better than your weekend: A Tout story

ydrtoutersIn an effort to help everyone in the newsroom understand the storytelling potential of Tout, there was a newsroom wide “Tout Your Weekend” contest that ended today.

What is Tout?

It’s a video-sharing platform that allows you to capture 15-second status updates that post through Twitter and Facebook.

It also allows you to pause the video and switch frames, so you don’t have to use an editor. Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving: The many poses of my free grocery store turkey

A turkey journalist on deadline.

There comes a time in every woman’s life where she must come to grips with the retail gimmicks associated with different holidays.

For me, today was the day. Continue reading

Co-worker Sean Adkins poses with a cucumber

York Daily Record/Sunday News Business Reporter Sean Adkins poses with a succulent, green vegetable.

Just a slice of life over here at the YDR business pod.

The other day, copy editor Teresa Cook gave me a fresh cucumber plucked from her garden.

Naturally, I figured, I’d use it to harass Sean.

This includes, but is not limited to, putting the elongated veggie in my purse and asking, “Is that a cucumber in my bag, or are you just happy to see me?”

Glad he has a sense of humor.
