Guerrilla marketing win! Social media pushes our project back into ydr.com Top 10.

So, I had my doubts about guerrilla marketing stories.

To me, it just seems like a hassle — not to mention irritating — to be posting EVERY story I write on random Facebook walls, forums, blogs and the like.

But yesterday proved me wrong.

Our “Risky Business” package had dropped off the radar of ydr.com’s Top 10.

Sean and I may have shed a tear.

Alas, we weren’t ready to throw in the towel. This project is the result of months worth of work. Continue reading

Monday Funday: A morning at Martin Library with YDR Books Editor Sarah Chain

NOTE TO SELF: Pick up books. We are, at the library, after all.

Last week, I planned to visit Martin Library in York with York Daily Record/Sunday News books editor Sarah Chain.

We decided to promote the visit as a meet-up/office hours/please-come-talk-to-us event in the Sunday News, ydr.com and social media channels.

Deb Sullivan, York County Libraries community relations director, even put our visit on the calendar.

From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., we parked our carcasses on the second floor of the downtown building.

Awesome Twitter nametags

Went to a party last night.

It was a housewarming for @parva_x (aka Trisha) and a celebration of Follow Friday the Film being in town.

These were the nametags.

And they are so totally awesome.

That is all.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Gettin’ out there: office hours for ideaLab yields story for York Daily Record co-worker

Tell people where you are, and they will come.

On Tuesday, I had a visitor during my ideaLab office hours at Central Market.

It was Sue Diaz, spokeswoman for The Potter’s House, a 300-member Hispanic congregation that’s hoping to buy a historic church in downtown York.

She had corresponded with me earlier that day via the ydr.com Facebook page, where I had posted my location for the morning. Continue reading

Looking forward to using ScribbleLive for my ideaLab project

I used ScribbleLive for the first time Friday.

As you recall, CoverItLive announced it would be charging for their program, effective July 1. Continue reading

Keepin’ it classy: Working from the 86-year-old Yorktowne Hotel

The morning started in style.

Don’t get me wrong.

I love a loud, obnoxious, shenanigans-filled ruckus as much as the next reporter.

I love frolicking among York County’s strangest in gas stations, diners and undisclosed locations.

I love it all — just not when I’m trying to meet deadlines.

On Tuesday, I just needed to work — transcribe long recordings, specifically.

And what better place, I figured, than the elegant, 86-year-old historic landmark I had written about a few weeks earlier. Continue reading

In case you missed it … A YDR Insider Q&A with yours truly

Can’t get enough of me?

Check out this Q&A in the York Daily Record’s YDR Insider blog.

The blog itself is where we discuss cool stuff, like what’s going on inside the newsroom.

In this post, I examine tidbits of my oh-so-exciting existence, including the time I got meningitis and the future of journalism.

Read it.

That is all.
